BR!NK: A Review of Books was founded by three undergraduates at Yale in the fall of 2017 to open up a space on campus for inquisitive readers and writers to think carefully about a wide range of subjects through one of the most incisive modes of critical engagement there is: the book review. For several years, BR!NK produced and distributed print issues filled with some of the most considered and imaginative undergraduate writing on campus — essays on campus affairs, American and international politics, science and technology, literature and the arts. During the pandemic, however, the review stopped publishing, which, in our minds, was a real loss. So we got to talking and planning and writing, and now, we’re excited to bring BR!NK back to campus this year. Over two print issues, writers on campus will cover books across genres, disciplines, countries, and time periods. We believe that a book review is a natural conduit for imaginative and rigorous thinking that invites discussion and debate. As a first principle, we believe that the best critique is that which considers the text and their interlocutors seriously, constructively, generously, responsibly. So write for us, read with us, talk to us — we hope BR!NK will become a community of clear thinkers and dear friends.
